The Crescent Theatre

Tucked into the heart of Birmingham’s Brindleyplace, The Crescent Theatre is a vibrant, welcoming hub for performers, creatives and audiences alike. With a rich history dating back to 1923, this volunteer-led company has grown into one of the city’s most respected theatre institutions.

Today, we are housed in a purpose-built modern venue, boasting a 340-seat main auditorium, a 120-seat studio theatre, rehearsal spaces and a friendly, well-stocked bar – the perfect setting for an inspiring night of live performance. We have also taken over running The Old Rep a theatre that opened in 1913.

Run by a dedicated membership of over 250 actors, technicians, directors, designers and theatre-lovers, The Crescent stages around fifteen in-house productions every year, spanning everything from Shakespeare to modern drama, musical theatre to experimental new writing.

Our ethos is simple: to create high-quality, ambitious and inclusive theatre that brings people together. In addition to our own work, we regularly welcome touring companies, festivals, dance, film and spoken word events, making The Crescent a vital part of Birmingham’s cultural life.
