When the Southport Dramatic Club first took to the stage in 1920, few could have predicted how far that initial spark would carry. What began as a modest gathering of local theatre lovers grew, over seventeen ambitious years, into something extraordinary: the construction of their very own, purpose-built home on Hoghton Street.

Opening its doors in 1937, the Little Theatre has stood at the heart of Southport’s cultural life ever since. Owned and operated entirely by the SDC, the venue combines the charm of its classic 1930s origins with a fiercely active production calendar. Behind every curtain call—from heavy-hitting drama and sharp comedy to our renowned annual pantomime—is an extraordinary community of actors, technicians, and front-of-house staff who build the sets, run the lights, and keep the doors open.

Over a century after those first rehearsals, the mission remains unchanged: bringing high-calibre, live theatre to our coast, made by the community, for the community.
