Royalty Theatre (Sunderland)

Welcome to the Royalty Theatre – Sunderland’s long-standing home for live drama since 1925. Just off Chester Road and close to the University Metro station, our warm and welcoming venue is run entirely by volunteers. Each season, from August to June, we produce a range of in-house shows – including gripping dramas, comedies, and our ever-popular family pantomime – all created with heart, talent and dedication.

More than just a stage, the Royalty Theatre is a community hub. As well as our own productions, we offer our spaces for hire and have hosted everything from school performances to concerts and variety nights. Whether you’re a performer, organiser or simply someone who loves the buzz of live events, we’re here to support and celebrate local creativity.

With our centenary just around the corner, we’re proud of our rich history – from humble beginnings to national recognition, and from wartime resilience to modern renovations.
