Dolman Theatre

Welcome to the Dolman Theatre – the beating heart of live performance in the centre of Newport. Owned and proudly run by Newport Playgoers Society, this much-loved theatre has been a cornerstone of the community for generations. Each season, our dedicated members present nine full-scale productions, staged Wednesday to Saturday, showcasing the very best in local amateur drama.

Alongside our main programme, we’re lucky to have a vibrant youth theatre who bring their energy and talent to both the main stage and our flexible studio space. The theatre also plays host to around two dozen visiting shows each year – a lively mix of musicals, dance performances and the occasional professional production – ensuring there’s always something exciting happening on stage.

The Dolman is more than just a theatre. It’s a meeting place, a rehearsal space, a creative hub – and above all, a friendly and welcoming environment where people from all walks of life come together to celebrate the arts. Professionally managed by Lisa Aston, and supported by our resident caretaker and duty manager Darian Thomas, we’re open most days and always happy to help.
