Tucked away quietly in the backstreets of Hertford, The Little Theatre is a hidden gem with a rich history. Originally an infant school built in 1868, the building became our home in 1972, thanks to the generosity of a well-wisher and the dedication of our founding members. Since then, we’ve transformed it into an intimate 63-seat theatre, complete with a technical control room, dressing room, and a welcoming foyer.
The Company of Players was born in 1962 from a passionate group of theatre lovers determined to bring high-quality drama to Hertford. From our early days performing in village halls and drama festivals to our first full-length play, Bell, Book and Candle, we’ve built a legacy of excellence and innovation. Over the years, we’ve won awards, staged countless productions, and created a vibrant community of performers and theatre enthusiasts.
Today, we continue to thrive, producing a diverse mix of plays in our beloved Little Theatre. With an exciting new extension on the horizon, we’re always growing and evolving. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or a first-time visitor, we invite you to join us—on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.
Welcome to The Company of Players. Welcome to the magic of live theatre!
