This ground-breaking report charts the ways in which building-based amateur theatres are finding new ways to connect with local people, their artistic ambitions, becoming vibrant hubs for storytelling. The report has been compiled by Dr Cara Gray, Professor Anne-marie Greene (Criterion, Earlsdon) & Professor Helen Nicholson.
You can read and download the report HERE. The forward is from Nick Morley, LTG Chair and Jo Matthews, organiser of the 2026 Youth Festival held at the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, alongside the LTG National Conference.
The Executive Summary notes “This report presents findings from the Local Theatres: Participation, Inclusion, Imagination research project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. While the research focuses on the amateur theatre sector through a partnership with the Little Theatre Guild (LTG), its insights have direct relevance for the professional, commercial, and community theatre sectors. LTG member theatres are independent, self-governing, and building-based, and operate with sophisticated structures and technical capabilities that mirror many professional presenting houses, making them vital benchmarks for place-based cultural policy.”
