Halifax Playhouse building is over 186 years old, starting life as a Methodist Chapel in January 1836. The Halifax Thespians took over ownership and converted it into a theatre in 1947. Thousands of memories live in the very foundations of this lovely Grade II listed building.
The Playhouse is an independent theatre owned and run by the Halifax Thespians and we are a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain.
We perform up to eight regular productions each year both on main stage and in the Playhouse Bar Studio, as well as numerous rehearsed readings and plays.
We run training courses for actors, directors and technical disciplines as well as offering ‘on the job’ support. We also play host to a number of local musical theatre groups and professional events.
