The Medway Little Theatre Youth Group are this week (19 – 24 May) posting on the Instagram page weareamateurtheatre which you can find HERE. They will report on the days leading up to and including the LTG Youth Theatre Festival where, along with another 6 youth groups, they performed on the main stage of the Crescent Theatre.
Do go to this the Instagram page and like and support their hard work. Medway Youth head regularly to an international theatre festival in Gibraltar so they seemed an appropriate choice for this initiative.
The Instagram page is an initiative from AITA/IATA – International Amateur Theatre Association – which is an umbrella body for amateur theatre group from across the globe. Founded in 1952, one of the many signatories on its founding statue is the late Alfred Emmet founder of LTG Member The Questors Theatre who are also one of the founding groups of LTG. So LTG’s links to AITA/IATA go back to the foundations of both organisations.
The AITA/IATA and LTG link continues with the Chair of LTG becoming a member of the AITA/IATA National Centre ITE – International Theatre Exchange. Anne Gilmour. who has just stood down as the LTG National Secretary, was the Secretariat of AITA/IATA for 14 years and Kevin Dowsett of Theatretrain, who spoke at the LTG Open Forum on Sunday is the past President of ITE. Thus there is a wealth of knowledge about international theatre festivals accessible to LTG Members. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Perhaps your theatre would like to take over weareamateurtheatre for a week – why not use it to explain to an international audience, all about the British Pantomime!
