The company was founded in 2008 to bring amateur arts, and in particular theatre, together in town and acquired its present premises, a former church hall, in 2012.     The Bear Pit Theatre has an auditorium seating 100 and presents 5 to 7 productions each season, recent plays include “When We Are Married”, “Talking Heads”, “Stepping Out” and “Seasons Greetings”.  The Bear Pit enjoys a close relationship with its neighbour, the RSC, and has participated in the Open Stages projects.
