The Theatre Royal Dumfries have asked the local authority for an additional £50,000 to complete their planned £1.9 million refurbishment. Unforeseen structural issues have caused the project costs to rise to £2.11 million and the owners, The Guild of Players, have approached Dumfries and Galloway Council for the extra money. The theatre is Scotland’s oldest working theatre and is due to reopen on January 17 with a one-show : Theatre Royal – The Next 200 Years (A celebration of the Theatre Royal Dumfries, Past, Present and Future).
