The LTG offers a warm welcome to the newest Member, Sterts Theatre and Arts Centre in Liskeard, Cornwall. They describe themselves as a unique tented amphitheatre (400 seats) under which they stage a wide range of productions. Their website is www.sterts.co.uk and their Facebook page is www.facebook.com/StertsArtsCentre
They open their season on 2 June 2021 with The Little Mermaid from their Youth Juniors. This is followed by a packed and varied programme which will keep their members extremely busy. To help Sterts recover and reopen, they have received a grant from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.
The company was created by Ewart and Ann Sturrock who, in 1982, took the calculated risk of buying the barns and outbuildings originally belonging to the farmhouse that they owned. These buildings now form the core of Sterts. The transformation from pig farm to arts centre had begun. They opened on 2 June 1990 to 300 people sheltering under umbrellas, but note that only 3 performances were stopped by rain that summer.
The present leadership team are working hard to build on what Anne & Ewart have achieved and hold firmly to the belief that everyone is creative.
